Anyone who is doing any type of marketing for small businesses is going to be communicating with business owners. Business owners need to know that you care about their business just as much as you care about yours. They are investing their hard earned money and trust in you, for you to make their business grow in a way that it could not grow without you.
No SEO or internet marketer ever wants to lose a client. But, unfortunately, I do not know any SEO company or marketer who has kept %100 of their clients.
I have lost some clients in the past and I think that where I went wrong was with the communication. Your clients need to know that you are always providing them with their rankings and they also may be curious as to "what it is that you are doing" for them every month. It's hard to explain SEO sometimes because of all of the jargon, so the best thing to do is do WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN.
I had a couple of flow charts I used to present to clients, and this did not seem to resonate with them. If possible, I would ask them what the numbers they are trying to reach are and also have them agree to ask every prospect who calls in WHERE THEY FOUND THE NUMBER. This way your client can record how well your campaign is going for them. Unless you have a telephone tracking system, this is the only way you can quantify the amount of traffic you are getting for your clients.
Automating your tasks should be next on the list. I said this in the previous blog post. You need to assemble a team that can kick major ass and be really productive at a price that you can scale "into the black" for years to come. Seth Godin said something like "free lancers make money when they are awake, entrepreneurs make money while they sleep".
You need a SYSTEM that works for you. Make your money work for you, don't work for your money...I think that's an old line from Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. This may be the hardest thing to figure out, as acquiring clients can come pretty easily, but you can only take on so much of a workload as a one man show.
